‘Netflix for Pirates’ has a new feature that will drive movie studios insane
Popcorn Time – the controversial service offers a Netflix-like movie streaming experience to users interested in pirating movies in a different, more exotic way than traditional downloads – has just gotten better, Business Insider reports. The service now allows Windows users to stream their selections to a Chromecast-connected big-screen television, letting them enjoy new flicks free of charge on a larger display. However, the feature is only available in an alpha version at this point.
In addition to Chromecast support for Windows devices, Popcorn Time is working on Mac and Android support for Chromecast, as well as better security features to help users hide their tracks while using the service.
What Popcorn Time does is to let users watch pirated movies without worrying about dealing with Torrent downloads and the successive cleaning up of data. Furthermore, Popcorn Time has a Netflix-like interface that allows users to easily look for content and access it.
Popcorn Time is not the only Netflix-like piracy service that streams movies on various platforms. An app called IsoPlex that has similar streaming features is also available to users.
While streaming illegal movies is not the same as downloading full copies on computers — and thus can’t be punished similarly in certain markets — Internet users looking to try such services should make sure they understand how they work before giving them a go at home.
