Netflix was founded on August 29, 1997, and to celebrate the popular streaming service's 25th birthday. Why not celebrate by watching these movies filmed in and around Shreveport?

The Mist

Starring Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden and directed by Frank Darabont, this 2007 Sci-Fi Horror film based off the Stephen King novella is about a brutal storm that attacks a small town and the residents discover a malevolent mist that hangs over their homes killing anyone who remains outside.

Filming Locations: Tom's Market in Vivian, Stageworks Studio in Shreveport and various other Shreveport and Minden locations.

Olympus Has Fallen

Starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and directed by Antoine Fuqua, this 2013 Action Adventure film sees an ex-Secret Service agent on a mission to rescue the president when the White House falls under attack.

Filming Locations: Bossier City, Shreveport, various other locations in Louisiana.

The Highwaymen

Starring Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson, Kathy Bates and directed by John Lee Hancock, this 2019 Netflix original Crime Drama follows two steely former Texas Rangers tasked with tracking and killing infamous criminals Bonnie and Clyde.

Filming Locations: Caddo Parish Courthouse in Shreveport, Laurel Valley Plantation in Thibodaux, Covington and various other locations in Louisiana.

Battle: Los Angeles

Starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Ne-Yo and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, this 2013 Sci-Fi Action Adventure film is the story about a platoon of gutsy Marines led by their skillful staff sergeant fighting to protect all humankind from powerful aliens.

Filming Locations: Barksdale Air Force Base and Millennium Studios in Shreveport, Ryan Airport, City Park and Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge and various other locations in Louisiana.

Cleaner

Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris, Eva Mendes, Keke Palmer and directed by Renny Harlin, this 2007 Thriller follows ex-detective Tom who runs a business specializing in cleaning up crime scenes, but a new gig at a ritzy house reveals a possible cover-up.

Filming Locations: Various locations in Shreveport and Bossier City.

Rise of the Guardians

Starring Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman and directed by Peter Ramsey this feel-good kid and family film sees Jack Frost teaming up with Santa, the Tooth Fairy and others to battle a malicious spirit determined to destroy the innocent beliefs of children.

While this animated film wasn't made in Northwest Louisiana, it is based on Shreveport native William Joyce's The Guardians of Childhood book series.

Premonition

Starring Sandra Bullock, Julian McMahon and directed by Mennan Yapo, this 2007 Mystery Thriller film follows a woman who learns her husband has died suddenly in a car crash, but the next day he reappears as if nothing ever happened.

Filming Locations: Various locations in Minden and Shreveport.

Steel Magnolias

Starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts and directed by Herbert Ross, this 1989 classic film is about six women in a small southern town sharing gossip, solving problems at the local beauty parlor and anchoring each other through life's ups and downs.

Filming Locations: Filmed primarily in Natchitoches and other various locations in Louisiana.

Bonus: He's All That

Starring Addison Rae, Tanner Buchanan, Rachael Leigh Cook, Matthew Lillard and directed by Mark Waters, this reboot of the 90's classic "She's All That" follows an influencer tasked with transforming an unpopular classmate into prom king.

While this film wasn't actually filmed in Louisiana, the main star Addison Rae was born in Lafayette, went to high school in Bossier City and attended LSU before dropping out to focus on her growing TikTok career.
