*Season one spoilers, spoilers, spoilers ahead*

Would you be able to forgive someone who accidentally mowed your husband down; killing him, kept it a secret, intentionally befriended you out of guilt, and then moved into your guesthouse (foldout sofa/cupboard under the stairs)?

Luckily - for the sake of a second season, which will be back on Netflix on May 8 - the two main leads in Netflix's tragicomedy Dead to Me Christina Applegate's Jen and Linda Cardellini's Judy managed to put the whole manslaughter and betrayal aside to make friends again in the show's dramatic finale. Thus making way for a second instalment... Because we all need more of Jen's filthy anger and dry sense of humour in our lives.

Is there a season 2 trailer?

Yes! Netflix recently dropped the full 2:22 minute trailer and it looks pretty juicy. It opens with Jen and Linda frantically working out how they can cover up Steve's murder. "How are we supposed to figure out what to do with a dead body?" Judy asks. Another scene shows Diana Maria Riva's Detective Ana Perez telling Jen: "I'm warning you, watch yourself because I sure as hell am." Oooh.

Dead to Me season 2 cast

So far, we know that Christina and Linda will be back as Jen and Judy, and Jen's sons - Sam McCarthy as Charlie, and Luke Roessler as Henry will return too. We're hoping Valerie Mahaffey will reprise her role as Jen's cold and evil mother-in-law Lorna, and Max Jenkins as Jen's God-fearing colleague Christopher Doyle.

Diana Maria Riva's Detective Ana Perez will be back on the case of Ted's hit and run, and now possibly tasked with investigating Steve's vanishing as a missing person case (if Jen and Judy cover up his murder).

Brandon Scott's storyline as Detective Nick Prager doesn't feel over yet, and we grew close to Keong Sim's Pastor Wayne, so fingers crossed he'll be returning too.

What would the Dead to Me season 2 storyline be?

Those questions being: Will Judy and Jen successfully cover up the murder of Steve, after the show ended with his body floating face-down in Jen's pool?

Will we discover more about Ted and who he really was? Season 1 depicted him as disloyal and a really crap husband after he apparently had an affair with a young waitress named Bambi that Jen and Judy track down. Will there be more to Ted in season 2?

Did Linda's ex, Detective Nick Prager, accidentally kill his partner on duty? Will Nick pose a problem to Linda as he knows she hit Ted and killed him?

But hang on - did Jen really shoot Steve? Because he had a gunshot to his back, so could it have been someone else? Such as Jen's grumpy teenage son Charlie, who previously stole Ted's gun for protection.

Or possibly even Jen's monstrous mother-in-law Lorna if she found out he was in the car that killed her son?

Well, what we do know about potential storylines is that the show's creator has said that season 2 will be super dark.

“This show will always be a show that explores the dark sides and the light sides of grief, loss, forgiveness, and friendship. So suffice it to say, there will be more darkness,” Liz told Hollywood Reporter. “There’s an evening of the score and there’s a rebalancing that will take place and almost, in some ways, a role reversal.”

But the good news is she's keen to do a whole load of seasons.

“It would be the pleasure and honour of my life to do this show for as many seasons as makes sense. I would do this show forever if I could.

Meanwhile, the official Netflix synopsis reads: "Picking up in the aftermath of that bloody backyard reveal, the irrepressible pair once again struggles to keep their secrets buried.

"With a surprising new visitor in town and Detective Perez hot on their heels, Jen and Judy take drastic measures to protect their loved ones and each other — no matter the cost."

When is the release date?

Luckily fans don't have to wait that long until season 2 as the streaming service announced the show will returning on May 8th.

They revealed the exciting news in a tweet, saying: "No one can ever know what happened. Except us. Dead To Me Season 2 premieres May 8 on Netflix."

Dead to Me season 1 recap

In case you don't remember, season 1 of Dead to Me followed misanthropic, world-hating widow Jen, who investigates the death of her husband Ted after he's killed in a hit and run. After reluctantly attending grief counselling, she meets Judy - a woman around the same age who is also struggling with grief.

The pair become inseparable, and Jen moves Judy into her guesthouse after she finally leaves her awful and selfish ex-boyfriend Steve (James Marsden). However, it soon materialises that it was Judy who hit Ted with her 1966 green mustang, with Steve in the passenger seat, who forced her drive off rather than stopping to see what they hit.

Judy eventually comes clean to Jen, who, as you can imagine, doesn't respond well, and instead arms herself with Ted's gun. But it's Steve who Jen (seemingly) ends up shooting, and now both women have murder on their conscience... And two secrets that could land them in jail.

The series also shines a light on important issues that impact women but are still reviled or rarely portrayed sensitively on screen - Jen's double mastectomy being one of them, which Christina Applegate underwent in 2008 after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and Judy experiencing an early menopause.

Dead to Me season 2 is available to stream on Netflix from May 8.
