NEW YORK — Before Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn was asked questions about superstar Kyrie Irving’s trade request that became public on Friday. Understandably, Vaughn answered those questions in about as general a manner as possible.

“Yesterday (Friday), I touched bases with every single player,” Vaughn said when asked what his conversation with Irving was like. “That was a day for me to get what you need and mine was to conversate with every single player.” Irving’s trade demand, according to multiple sources, was the result of Irving and the Nets being unable to come to terms on a contract extension that satisfied both parties.

“I didn’t ask those questions.” Vaughn said when asked if Irving expressed to him his reasons for wanting out. “There’s a business side to this thing and there’s a human side to this thing. I elected to touch on the human side and check on him as an individual. I’ll leave the business side to Sean (Marks) and that group.” Irving will be an unrestricted free agent this summer is he is not traded by the deadline (Feb. 9).
