Neurosurgeon and NFL widow set to run in Georgia Brain Tumor Walk and Race

Hundreds of people will lace up their sneakers and join the inaugural Georgia Brain Tumor walk and race.

The event will take place Saturday at the Battery, in Cobb County.

The WSB family will walk in honor of Jovita Moore. In 2021, Moore died after battling brain cancer.

LaTresa Doleman will chair the Georgia Walk and Race. She joined the National Brain Tumor Society after her husband, Chris Doleman, who was a former NFL defensive end for the Minnesota Vikings, the Atlanta Falcons, and the San Francisco 49ers, died in 2020.

“My husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor,” said Doleman.

“He was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, which is the most aggressive form of brain cancer.”

Doleman told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington, the event is personal for so many people.

“Walk in memory of someone. I’m walking in memory of my beloved hubby or you can walk in honor of someone,” Doleman said.

The event aims to raise awareness and funds for brain tumor research.

“We have to do a lot of rigorous research specifically for patients with brain tumors so we can come up with treatments that are going to be effective for them,” explained Emory University Hospital neurosurgical oncologist, Dr. Edjah K. Nduom.

Dr. Nduom treated Channel 2′s Jovita Moore.

“What was really important to her was that other people benefited from her story,” explained Dr. Nduom.

Doleman told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington she hopes sharing her husband’s story will encourage more people to support the event.

“We really, really need to raise funds so that we can continue to have the trials, so we can have a cure,” Doleman said.
