Nevada junior football player Aidan Freeman was selected as the Ames Tribune Athlete of the Week for Sept. 19-25 by Tribune readers.
Freeman won the reader poll that included 15 top Ames-area performers for last week. He won a close battle with Ames cross country runner Jonathon Williams.
Freeman received 4,368 votes (42.4%) to Williams' 3,367 (32.7%). Williams turned in a strong showing at the Indianola Invitational on Sept. 22, helping the Little Cyclones win by placing sixth with a 5-kilometer time of 16:38.7.
Freeman was the hero for the No. 5 (Class 3A) Nevada football team during its 25-22 Class 3A District 2 victory at Gilbert last Friday. Freeman drilled a 36-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter to break a 22-22 tie and give Nevada the victory.
