Nevada kicker Aidan Freeman is Ames Tribune Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers

Nevada junior football player Aidan Freeman was selected as the Ames Tribune Athlete of the Week for Sept. 19-25 by Tribune readers.

Freeman won the reader poll that included 15 top Ames-area performers for last week. He won a close battle with Ames cross country runner Jonathon Williams.

Freeman received 4,368 votes (42.4%) to Williams' 3,367 (32.7%). Williams turned in a strong showing at the Indianola Invitational on Sept. 22, helping the Little Cyclones win by placing sixth with a 5-kilometer time of 16:38.7.

Freeman was the hero for the No. 5 (Class 3A) Nevada football team during its 25-22 Class 3A District 2 victory at Gilbert last Friday. Freeman drilled a 36-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter to break a 22-22 tie and give Nevada the victory.
