LAS VEGAS, NV — Gov. Steve Sisolak plans to lift the state's mask mandate, according to a report.

Sisolak's office said the governor plans to provide an update on COVID-19 on Thursday. A virtual news conference was planned for 10 a.m. Thursday. Sisolak's office said he will talk about cases and hospitalizations, along with the availability of COVID-19 test kits and therapeutics.

But The Nevada Independent reported, citing anonymous sources, that the governor is expected to lift the state's mask mandate at the news conference.

The mandate, implemented July 30, requires all counties in the state experiencing "substantial or high transmission levels" to follow the masking guidelines. In these counties, everyone regardless of vaccination status must wear a mask in public indoor settings. Counties can change masking requirements if they remain in "a low or moderate" transmission for at least two consecutive weeks.

Should Nevada lift the requirement, it would align with other states that have done so recently, including New Jersey, California, Connecticut, Delaware and Oregon, The New York Times reported.
