Never too old to ride

Jul. 9—It was all smiles at Providence Place Senior Living in Pottsville on Thursday as residents climbed onto Harleys and went for a spin.

Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson in Orwigsburg arranged for a small group of bikers to ride from the store to the senior living community to socialize and share their love of motorcycles with residents. A similar event was held last year when bikers drove by to celebrate a resident's 102nd birthday.

For resident Alberta Spina, 97, it was her first time riding a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, for other residents, the ride brought back memories. It had been 10 years since resident Cyndy Kleckner last rode a motorcycle. She previously owned a Harley-Davidson herself.

"I loved it," Kleckner said about the ride. "Everyone is very nice."

Kleckner, who was first in line, knew she had to go for a ride when she heard there would be a sidecar, she said.
