Though he may not be ready to take the field on Sunday, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones cleared concussion protocol on Friday after suffering a scary hit in their loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week.

Jones had to be carted off the field at AT&T Stadium in New York's 44-20 loss to Dallas just before halftime. He was officially cleared by an independent neurologist on Friday, and had been “on track” to return and start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

"I definitely think we love Daniel. We want Daniel to play. We know he wants to play. So obviously we want him out there with us as our brother, but also want the best for him," receiver Darius Slayton told ESPN on Friday. "If he's not right, last thing we want to do is send him out there to get hurt further."

Jones was trying to run the ball into the end zone himself just before halftime last week in Dallas when he made direct helmet-to-helmet contact with Cowboys linebacker Jabril Cox.

Jones was uneasy getting up, and stumbled after losing his balance trying to walk off the field. He was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion, and replaced by Mike Glennon.

Jones, 24, has thrown for 1,282 yards and four touchdowns so far this season for the Giants, his third with the team after they selected him with the No. 6 overall pick in 2019.

Jones was one of several high-profile injuries the Giants suffered in Dallas. Running back Saquon Barkley had to be carted off the field, too, after rolling his ankle in the first quarter. Wide receiver Kenny Golladay also hyperextended his knee in the first quarter and has not practiced all week. Both Golladay and Barkley were ruled out for Sunday.

The Giants will host the Rams on Sunday afternoon, and are listed as +8.5 underdogs on BetMGM.
