NEWARK – Many community agencies teamed up recently to help 85 Newark City Schools students and their families shop for Christmas gifts during the district's annual Cops and Kids event.

Each student had the opportunity to shop with a Newark police officer or C-TEC Criminal Justice student at Walmart on 21st Street. The students had $100 to spend, while their parents also had $100 to purchase gifts for the students.

This year, community partners donated $19,508.68 for the day.

NCS thanked the following donors for their generosity: Walmart, Park National Bank, the Newark Police Department, Moose Lodge, Dor-Mar, Tequilaville, the Alexander Family, Licking Memorial Health Systems and Coughlin Automotive.

Students also ate lunch with the police volunteers. Bummies donated pizza, Jolly Pirate donated cookies and Lee's Chicken donated cups, drinks and silverware. The NCS Food Service department provided the salad bar and decorations.
