Newark woman claims $2 million-winning Powerball ticket from February

The mystery of the $2 million unclaimed winning lottery ticket in Newark has finally been solved.

On Feb. 25, a Saturday night lottery drawing resulted in a win for a Powerball +Power Play ticket purchased at a Wawa on Capitol Trail near Newark, according to the Delaware Lottery.

The ticket remained unclaimed for weeks, with many wondering if it was a ticket they accidentally threw out or lost amidst pocket change.

Unfortunately for those still holding out hope that they may still collect, the winner of the $2 million pot has finally come forward.

A 36-year-old woman from Newark turned out to be the lucky ticket holder, Delaware Lottery announced Thursday.

The ticket holder purchased a two-play Powerball ticket with Power Play for the Feb. 25 drawing and was “completely shocked” when she found out her lucky picks matched all five white numbers with a 3X Power Play, resulting in the $1 million prize doubling to a total of $2 million before taxes, according to a statement from the Delaware Lottery.
