Newark woman dead, son in custody as Licking County Sheriff investigates

A Newark man is in custody and is considered a person of interest in the death of his mother, according to the Licking County Sheriff's Office.

In a release from Sheriff Randy Thorp, deputies were sent on a welfare check on Dec. 23 for Debra Perrine, 67, on Darlene Drive in Newark because family members had not had contact with her for roughly a week.

Deputies found David Perrine, 40, and Debra Perrine's son, on the property along with another male. The release states that deputies found evidence in the house that indicated foul play occurred and an attempt had been made to remove evidence. David Perrine was arrested for a pretrial bond violation. The other male was not arrested.

On Thursday, sheriff detectives and investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Investigation and Identification found an area on the Darlene Drive property that indicated the ground had been recently displaced. Upon excavating the site, investigators discovered the body of Debra Perrine, who had obvious signs of trauma.

David Perrine remains incarcerated and is considered a person of interest in the case, according to the sheriff. The death of Debra Perrine is being investigated as a homicide.

People with information regarding this case are asked to contact the Licking County Sheriff's Office.
