Newborn jaguars boost Argentina repopulation project
STORY: Footage from the foundation showed the jaguar mom, Tania feeding her two cubs and resting with them in their den.
The cubs, initially three of them, were born around February 2, but the smallest one died a few days later, a common occurrence in the wild, the statement said.
For the Rewilding Foundation - which specializes in the preservation of endangered species - the birth and survival of these two new cubs bolsters the bid to revert back the extinction trend in the area.
The two new cubs join the number of individuals that may be released into the wild in the future.
The jaguar, also known in Argentina as 'yaguarete,' is considered a ‘national natural heritage'.
Rewilding Foundation estimates there are only 250 of these animals living in the wild in Argentina.
