High-speed crash causes traffic delays in Newburgh Heights

NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) -Newburgh Heights police report a high-speed crash is to blame for an overnight road closure and traffic signal outage impacting the morning commute.

According to Chief John Majoy, shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a vehicle driving eastbound on Harvard Avenue at a high rate of speed went off the right side of the road, destroyed an RTA bus stop, hit another vehicle, and struck a pole.

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence, and the driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to Metro Hospital, said Majoy.

As a result, the intersection at E. 49th Street and Harvard Avenue was closed overnight and as of 6 a.m. traffic signals in the area were still not working properly.

There is no word on when the traffic signal is expected to be back up and running.
