Newcastle signs Brazilian striker Jair for 2018-19 season

NEWCASTLE, Australia (AP) — Newcastle Jets have signed Brazilian striker Jair Eduardo Britto da Silva for the 2018-19 A-League season.

The Jets, who lost last year's grand final 1-0 to the Melbourne Victory, said Thursday that Jair is expected to join the squad for his first training session later this week. The A-League season begins Oct. 19.

The 30 year-old Jair moves to Australia from Chinese club Yanbian Funde FC. He has spent much of his career in the South Korean K-League, including stints with Jeju United and Jeonnam Dragons, scoring 46 goals in 110 games.

He has also had loan spells with Japan's Kashima Antlers and the Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates.
