Newcomerstown mayor praises department heads, council

NEWCOMERSTOWN − There are 162 items on Mayor Pat Cadle’s list of accomplishments for 2022, but he would be the first to say that those accomplishments would not have happened without the efforts of the village’s department heads and village council.

“We have great department heads, employees and members of council,” Cadle said. He presented a list of those accomplishments during a recent mayor’s breakfast at the newly opened Administration Building on College Street.

The opening of that building was the culmination of a nearly three-year project and was the highlight, in the mayor’s opinion, of the previous year.

Other highlights included:

• Removal of the final two buildings at the former Simonds factory.

• Reception of a $674,000 Ohio “brownfield” grant to remove concrete at the Simonds site.

• The work being done with Newcomerstown Now and other development groups to promote the downtown to pursue grants to add new sidewalks, paint buildings and add new light posts.

• Marketing Newcomerstown as a site for housing and new business and industry, including the Simonds site, land above Cy Young Park and land above the Wendy’s Restaurant on Route 36.

The list presented by Mayor Cadle includes items from Lisa Stiteler, the fiscal officer; Shannon Kincaid, administrative assistant; Police Chief Opha Lawson; and the cemetery, street, parks, and water/wastewater departments.
