Newcomerstown News: Cheerleading squad wins IVC championship for third consecutive year
The Newcomerstown High School cheerleading squad was recently named the IVC North champions for the third consecutive year. The event was held at Indian Valley High School and included six squads in the north division as well as six in the south division.
"This year we made several changes in our program for the better," coach Haylee Elliott said. "We focused on staying competitive and continuing to improve our program. We hired a choreographer and a tumbling instructor.
"The IVC is our most anticipated competition, although we do compete at other competitions locally. Our squad developed our routine in September and have practiced four to five days a week since then. I am so proud of the amount of hard work, drive, and mental toughness our squad has. Despite injuries and illnesses, they still show up and push themselves to put in the work needed, and it paid off," she added.
"My team, coaches, and I have worked so hard this season for this moment. Hearing that we received first place for IVC North made all the sacrifices worth it," said Nash Bricker, senior cheerleader.
Kelly Hinds, also a senior cheerleader, added, "We have put in countless hours of work for our two minutes and thirty seconds to shine, and I could not be more grateful to have stepped on the mat one last time with my squad."
Moving forward, our cheerleaders will take a break and will be back to work in March for tryouts.
