Newcomerstown News: High school marching band receives award at band preview event

The Newcomerstown High School Band recently received an outstanding performance award at the Tuscarawas County Band Preview. The award was presented by the New Philadelphia band field commanders. The show is an annual event, and the New Philadelphia band invites local county schools to take part. Newcomerstown was one of six bands in attendance. In addition to Newcomerstown, also participating were Tuscarawas Valley, Claymont, Indian Valley, Dover and New Philadelphia.

Band director Caleb Bradley a native of Circleville, has just begun his first year at Newcomerstown. Bradley is a graduate of Marietta College with a degree in music education focusing on instrumental studies.

“The Newcomerstown Trojan band is doing phenomenal work, and their performances are amazing," Bradley said. "I am so happy I have been given the opportunity to be their band director, and I look forward to years to come as part of the Newcomerstown village. I see us bringing back that big band atmosphere that the community has missed. We are striving for the success and growth of the program and are working toward some really amazing things.”

Next football game

The next Newcomerstown High School Football game will be Sept. 8 at Barnesville.

2023 Newcomerstown Cheer Alumni Night

The Newcomerstown cheerleaders are planning a Newcomerstown Alumni Cheer night to be held on Sept. 15 at Lee Stadium. All former cheerleaders for N.H.S. are invited to participate. Two practices will be held, one on Sept. 12 and the other on Sept. 14, both starting at 6 p.m. and going until 8 p.m. All proceeds will benefit future cheerleading competitions. From Mayor Cadle’s Office

The first council meeting of September will be held on Sept. 5, a day later than normal due to the Labor Day holiday. The meeting will take place at the Administration Building, located at 308 S. College St. Council meetings begin at 7 p.m.
