Newcomerstown in the News: Spring cleanup event set May 5-7

NEWCOMERSTOWN – The village will host its spring community cleanup on May 5-7, with trash bins to be located at the Street Department, 210 S. College St. The bins are to be available for Newcomerstown residents only.

In other village news, Mayor Pat Cadle reported turnout gear for the newly created Newcomerstown Fire Department was on its way and that newly hired Fire Chief Jeff Parks has been meeting with other area fire chiefs and getting offers of equipment. The mayor said the Village of Tuscarawas might have a spare fire engine because the village recently purchased a new one.

The village has also renewed its agreement with the Newcomerstown Senior Center, which is located on property owned by the village.

Community Calendar

Newcomerstown Now, a non-profit community development group, is bringing back a community calendar with 2,000 copies to be printed and distributed to every household in Newcomerstown. Additional copies will be available.

The calendar will be similar to the former Rotary Club calendar with listings for birthdays, anniversaries, meetings, In Memory and military service.

Smoke alarms

The American Red Cross will distribute and install smoke alarms on four streets in the village from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6.

The Red Cross will visit Martin Luther King Drive, South College Street, Mulvane Street and Chestnut Street. An adult must be present in the house.

‘Love Letters’ at ARTSNCT

ARTSNCT, Arts Center of Newcomerstown, will present a free production of the award-winning play “Love Letters” as part of its Arts for All program at 6:30 p.m. May 12-13.

The show will be produced by Black Box Ensemble Theatre and directed by Don Irven, founder of the theater company.

“Love Letters” is a play is about the connection of love between two friends who exchange notes, cards and letters for moer than 50 years. The show will star local veteran actors Elizabeth Thomakos and Bart Herman, both of whom have performed in many productions in the area.

This program is made possible by grants from Tuscarawas Arts Partnership/TAP, Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dominion Energy, and Walmart Stores in Coshocton, New Philadelphia, Cambridge, and Zanesville.

National Day of Prayer

Newcomerstown residents are invited to take part in a National Day of Prayer at 8 a.m. May 4 in the Newcomerstown Police Department’s parking lot. There will be a prayer by a local pastor at 8:10 a.m. followed by a walk to line Main Street for personal prayer time. The event will end at 9 a.m.
