Newest low-income apartment complex, Patriot Place, opens in Northeast El Paso

The grand opening ceremony for the city's newest low-income apartment complex, Patriot Place, was held Wednesday. The housing community is located in the Northeast near the El Paso Community College Transmountain Campus.

The 110-unit Patriot Place, 9500 Kenworthy Drive, is open to all low-income families, but will give preference to community members who have served in the military. Housing Opportunity Management Enterprises (HOME) wants to provide affordable housing to El Pasoans, officials said, but will especially honor veterans who fought for the country.

“HOME wanted to build a community that would honor our veterans,” HOME CEO Gerald Cichon said in a news release. “This community will offer state-of-the-art high-quality housing, and HOME is honored to be able to continue to provide decent affordable housing for all El Pasoans.”

The apartments include Energy Star appliances, walk-in pantries, central cooling and heating, and are located near public schools and shopping, food, entertainment and other quality-of-life options.

Patriot Place is a $25.7 million investment. HOME officials reported that the project's cost increased by almost $9 million from $17 million when construction began in June 2021 due to price inflation, pandemic-related supply-chain problems, and rising interest rates.
