Newly created Russian army corps will not change situation on battlefield — ISW

Analysts suggest that the Russian military intends to bring in the 3rd Army Corps to bolster offensive operations near the city Donetsk,around Marinka, Peski and Avdiyivka where, after a small amount of Russian success, the invaders’ offensive has ground to a halt.

Parts of the 3rd Army Corps might also be deployed on the southern part of the front, including near the Russian-occupied city of Kherson.

However, according to ISW, units of the army corps are unlikely to be able to create effective combat power.

“Better equipment does not necessarily make more effective forces when the personnel are not well-trained or disciplined, as many members of the 3rd Army Corps’ volunteer units are not,” the Institute for the Study of War said.

Images of elements of the 3rd Army Corps showed that the volunteers were physically unhealthy and old. Analysts also note that Russia's shortage of experienced junior officers will affect the effectiveness of the corps.

In addition, ISW reports that Russia's offensive capabilities in Kherson Oblast have further deteriorated.

This is indicated by the fact that, according to the Operational Command South, on Aug. 27, a 10-person Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group mounted an unsuccessful assault in the direction of Dobropoliya and Dobryanka. Analysts note that 10 troops are too few a number to effectively act as a maneuverable unit.
