ESCONDIDO, Calif.(FOX 5/KUSI) — Bodycam footage showing the moments leading up to a fatal shooting involving officers in North County was publicly released Thursday.

The video, released by the Escondido Police Department (EPD), shows the moments when officers were dispatched to a mobile home park in the 2500 block of East Valley Parkway. Residents had called in to report an unknown man sleeping on their front porch.

Responding officers contacted the man, identified as 48-year-old Douglas Quinn, and found out he had a felony warrant for a parole violation out of Indiana, EPD explained. At that point, officers attempted to detain Quinn.

As seen in the released footage, the suspect reached for a handgun from his pants and took off running. Police said he fired several rounds at officers, who returned fire and struck the man several times. Despite life-saving measures, Quinn was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

No officers were injured in the gunfire, authorities confirmed.

In the video shared on YouTube, the Escondido Police Chief Ed Varso explained that the November 2023 incident remains under investigation by the San Diego Police Department, along with a review by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.
