Newman girls’ soccer repeats as Division IV state champions
HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — Newman defeated top-seeded Episcopal, 1-0 to claim their second Division IV girls’ soccer state title in a row Wednesday night at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Strawberry Stadium.
The lone goal was scored in the 14th minute by senior Avery Summerour, while the Greenies defense stifled the undefeated Knights.
Episcopal scored 36 goals in their playoff run to the Division IV title game, but Newman successfully held them scoreless.
The win gives the Newman girl’s soccer program its fourth state title in the last five years, the second straight under head coach Doug Freese.
