Newman's 2 homers help Pirates finish off Reds

Kevin Newman's second homer of the game Friday, a two-out, two-run shot to left in the ninth inning, gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 6-5 walkoff win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Newman's 12th homer came off Raisel Iglesias (3-12) and gave the Pirates (69-91) their fourth straight win. They also have beaten the Reds all times the teams have met at at PNC Park.

Phillip Ervin hit a two-run single and Michael Lorenzen an RBI single for the Reds (73-87), who have lost five in a row.

Pittsburgh starter Steven Brault struck out a career-high 10 in five innings. He gave up four runs, four hits and four walks.

Yacksel Rios (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth.

Cincinnati starter Anthony DeSclafani pitched five innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and eight hits, with five strikeouts and one walk.

Cincinnati's Jose Peraza led off the game with a double to the corner in left. He stole third, and catcher Jacob Stallings' throw was errant, allowing Peraza to score. Ervin walked. An out later, Aristides Aquino doubled, sending Ervin to third. Jose Iglesias' groundout brought Ervin home for a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Cincinnati's Alex Blandino drew a walk and Peraza singled. Ervin drove in both with a single up the middle to make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Newman's three-run homer to left closed it to 4-3.

Pittsburgh tied it in the sixth. Kevin Kramer and Stallings singled, chasing DeSclafani in favor of Robert Stephenson.

Jake Elmore moved Kramer to third with a fly ball. Gonzalez lined out softly to second baseman Peraza, who threw to first trying to double up Stallings, but the ball was slightly off target, and the error allowed Kramer to score for a 4-4 tie.

In the eighth, Lorenzen -- who made his fifth start in 12 games in center before moving to his natural position on the mound in the seventh -- drove in Jose Iglesias with a base hit up the middle, his sixth RBI, for a 5-4 Reds lead.
