In another notable event, the museum will be hosting an important discussion on Tuesday, May 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The conversation will revolve around pressing topics such as mass incarceration, restorative justice, the right of return, and the transformative power of the arts. The participants include Francine Weiss, the Museum's director of curatorial affairs & chief curator, exhibiting artist Jesse Krimes; Wendy Sawyer, research director at the Prison Policy Initiative; and Cheryl Robinson, board president of Turning Around Ministries in Newport. The event will be moderated by Cheryl Hatch, Newport Bureau reporter for The Public's Radio. This enlightening discussion is free and open to the public, and RSVPs can be made at www.newportartmuseum.org/events/social-fabric-incarceration/.

For families with young art enthusiasts, the Wake and Create program offers a wonderful opportunity for children aged 4 to 10 and their caregivers. Taking place this Saturday, May 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants will have the chance to visit the exhibition "Ana Flores: Shaman Ladders and Other Stories." They will then unleash their creativity by working with wood block bases, wire armature, and sculpey clay to construct imaginative three-dimensional tree sculptures. Admission to this event is free with Museum admission, and it is open to children under 18 and Museum Members. To reserve a spot, please visit www.newportartmuseum.org/events/may-wake-create/.
