A Newport man could take home more than $600,000 on New Year's Eve. Here's how.

NEWPORT — A Newport man may come home from the New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square more than $600,000 richer thanks to being a contestant in a Powerball lottery promotion.

Finton Wallace is one of five contestants chosen nationally in Powerball second-chance drawings. Wallace and the other four each won a trip for two to the New Year's Eve celebrations in New York, where the winner will be chosen live on ABC's New Year's broadcast in a special drawing just after midnight. The other contestants are from Idaho, North Carolina, New York and Georgia.

Powerball bills the promotion as the first millionaire of the year, but because taxes must be paid on the $1-million prize, the winner will not become a millionaire based solely on the contest. This is the fifth year of the promotion.
