News briefs: Adena Local Theatre to present 'Little Women'

FRANKFORT — The Adena Local Theatre and International Thespian Society Troupe 8026 will present 'Little Women' by Kate Hamill at Adena High School on March 24, 25, and 26, featuring a cast and crew of over 30 students from Adena High School and Middle School.

Celebrating over 20 years of producing plays and musicals in the Adena Local School District, the Adena Local Theatre ends its 21st season with Little Women by Kate Hamill, adapted from the novel by Louisa May Alcott. Telling the classic tale of the March sisters and set against the backdrop of the Civil War, Little Women will have four performances over 3 days, featuring some roles that have been dual-cast.

Performance dates and times: Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices: $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens.

CAC to hold painting fundraising event

WAVERLY -- The Events Committee of the Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) will be hosting Mother’s Day Painting Party: A Painting Fundraiser event open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. May 10 at the Pike County Senior Center (402 Clough Street in Waverly). The focus of this painting party will be floral images and the supplies needed to paint the artworks will be provided. Scioto County artist, Charles Haskins will be instructing throughout the event to offer assistance.

Anyone who would like to participate in this event are required to register by Monday, May 8. There is a $20 fee for adults and $15 for 13 and younger (payable to Community Action Committee of Pike County). The proceeds will go to the Events Committee to assist with funding future community events (e.g. Trunk-or-Treat, Reindeer Games, Easter Egg Hunt, etc). Donations to the Events Committee are always greatly appreciated.

Meetings

The Colerain Township Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday March 27 at the fire department annex in Hallsville. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss appropriations and other township business.

Free Ag Drone Workshop

CHILLICOTHE - As more and more commercial drones are being outfitted for agriculture, the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District announces a free drone workshop and ag drone demonstration on March 30.

Farmers and the public are invited to see and discuss the capabilities of ag drone technology. Not only are drones crop dusting, but drones can also apply liquid nutrients and broadcast seeding. Peebles-based company Midwest Air will demonstrate their equipment at the workshop.

The event is free and open to the public at noon on March 30 at the Ross County Fairgrounds at 344 Fairgrounds Road.The Ross Soil and Water Conservation District promotes land use practices that prevent soil erosion and protect water quality. The district’s vision includes promoting innovation. Emerging drone technology may provide solutions to problems that farmers face implementing some conservation practices like cover crops.The conservation district has been using drones since 2016 primarily for imaging and map making. The district will display its drone equipment plus specialized maps drawn with drone data.

The event is scheduled rain or shine and will move inside the multi purpose building in case of bad weather.

Park District to host open house

CHILLICOTHE -- The Ross County Park District will host an open house from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, April.

The event will features a cook-out, DIY bird houses, campfire, hikes, kid's activities, historic camp demonstrations and giveaways.

The district will open the A-Frame cabin and shelter house at Buzzard’s Roost for a day of activities as it celebrates 30 years.
