News briefs: An American Celebration concert to be held in May at the Majestic

CHILLICOTHE -- Positive Country Records from Nashville Tennessee will present “An American Celebration” Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at the Majestic Theater 45 East Second Street In Chillicothe.

The show will feature Nashville Recording artists The Music City Quartet as well as Ohio native J. Abbott, breakout artist Lily Mae Border, Bev McCann and other special guests. Tickets are $20 and are available through the Majestic Theater Box office 740-7722-2041.

Spokesperson J.T. Stewart said “ With all of the division and negativity that seems to be in the news lately, it is a great opportunity to celebrate the great country that we live in and freedom that we enjoy”

The Music City Quartet has been likened to super group The Statler Brothers Quartet who blazed the music scene of Americana music until their retirement in 2002. New Music artist Jeremy Abbott brings a modern sound that is reflected in his soon-to-be nationally released album.

Youth-Oriented Archaeology Day at the Lucy House

CHILLICOTHE - Bring the kids to the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center for a touchable Youth-Oriented Archaeology Day from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday.

Jeb Bowen, an archaeologist with the Pickaway County Historical Society, is coordinating the event that will have children learn for ten minutes at five stations. Among the topics are geology, fossils, historical artifacts, and metal detecting.

Retired teacher and archaeology educator Gary Argabright will present ancient technologies like flint knapping.

Attendees are encouraged to bring rocks and artifacts for identification. For more information contact Jeb Bowen at 567/232-8207 for voice or text.

If you enjoyed Ross County Archaeology Day on April 15, this event has a similar focus for a younger audience. The hands-on learning experience (and light refreshments) are free for people from ages 3 to 103 at 90 West Sixth Street in Chillicothe.

Bartlett named Keys to Success Coordinator

CHILLICOTHE -- Vicki Bartlett has been hired as the full-time Keys to Success Coordinator. Keys to Success is an anti-drug and educational program at Chillicothe High School. This program has been in the city school district for eight years and it is growing.

Vicki Bartlett has been at Chillicothe High School for the past four school years working as a Community Behavioral Health Worker.

She has been working in the Behavioral Health/ Mental Health field for 25 years. Most of these years have been working with children and teens.

Bartlett graduated from Columbus State in 1998 with a degree in Mental Health/ Chemical Dependency. She worked in this field and then attended Franklin University and graduated with her bachelor's degree in 2015 with a degree in science (Psychology, Public Relations/ Marketing, and Communications.)

She has completed her studies at Ohio University and is receiving her license from the nursing board to be certified as a Community Health Worker. She is also working toward her Master’s degree in social work, has been with Integrated Services for almost eight years and currently holds CDCA.

The Keys to Success Year-end event will be held on May 8 at Chillicothe High School where a brand new car will be awarded to one junior or senior in the program by Herrnstein Auto Group.

Cohen Orthopedics is the sponsor for drug kits for the program's testing. There will be scholarships given from Emily Gerber Poe, Dave Strickland, John Lods, Deidra Rowland and The Chillicothe Education Foundation and 12,000 in prizes awarded as rewards by grants from Juvenile & Probate courts. The Moose Lodge awards orange cords to all graduating seniors in the program and Ohio Health is the program's T-shirt sponsor.
