Annual Davis-Besse siren test set for Friday

OAK HARBOR - At noon Friday, Ottawa and Lucas counties will test the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) sirens for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. The sounding of these 54 sirens will last for three minutes. This three-minute activation is an annual requirement. Sirens will be sounded within, Ottawa County in Bay Township, Benton Township, Carroll Township, Erie Township, City of Port Clinton, Harris Township — East of Ohio 590, and Salem Township including the Village of Oak Harbor.

In Lucas County the sirens will sound in Jerusalem Township, Eastern Portion.

Fremont Civil Service Commission to meet

FREMONT - A meeting of the Civil Service Commission will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Conference Room on the third floor of the Municipal Building at 323 South Front St.

Chasing Jami Memorial 5K - GLOW Walk-Run set for Saturday

FREMONT - The Chasing Jami Memorial 5K and GLOW Walk/Run in honor of Jami Toeppe Raubenolt will be 7:30 p.m. for walkers and 7:50 p.m. runners, Saturday in the city. Register for the event at the Pontifex Inc., 416 W. State St., before or on race day or sign up online at raceroster.com/…/78779/chasing-jami-memorial-5k.

Jami Toeppe Raubenolt lost her battle with glioblastoma brain cancer in February 2021. She was an avid runner with a heart for helping. All proceeds for this race will benefit Pontifex, Inc., a local non-profit in Fremont. Pontifex feeds the hungry with a weekly food pantry, and two soup kitchens — one at 4 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. Friday. Pontifex also offers showers for those in need.

For the run, follow the glow-lit path while wearing glow bracelets/necklaces/paint. Awards will be handed out to the top three male and female runners, and the top three male and female children ages 17 and under. Packet Pickup begins at 5 p.m. Preregister to be guaranteed a T-Shirt.

Magruder to hold Monthly Community Lab Screenings

PORT CLINTON - Magruder Hospital's next monthly community lab screening will be 8 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Magruder Community Clinic, 730 Jefferson St.

The main lab test is a CBC, CMP and Lipid Profile, which includes liver and kidney function, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, HDL/LDL, Triglycerides and a complete blood count (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in the blood) for $50.

Magruder also offers add-ons tests including: Lipid Profile, $20; Hemoglobin A1C, $20; PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen), $30; TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), $25; and Vitamin D, $35.

This lab screening is held on the second Thursday each month. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 419-301-4304.  Participants are asked to fast for 12 hours prior to their appointment time but can have water.  No insurance accepted — payment can be made by cash, check or credit card (no American Express).
