Area harbors to benefit from more federal funding

WASHINGTON DC - Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Developme, announced the awarding of $99,590,000 in additional federal funding she secured for four critical projects as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ annual work plan.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) released its fiscal year 2023 work plan outlining projects the Corps will soon undertake. The additional amount will support four projects critical to the economic development and environmental health of Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, Lake Erie shoreline communities and the Great Lakes region as a whole. The amount supplements over $89,000,000 in federal funding specifically appropriated by Congress for 13 Corps projects in the district and region, for a total of over $189,000,000 in Corps funding going to 14 projects overall.

Local project will include $1,010,000 for Port Clinton Harbor maintenance and $2 million for Put-In-Bay Harbor maintenance.

Ottawa County offices hit by malware

PORT CLINTON - The Ottawa County commissioners announced March 3 officials detected and are responding to malware activity on the county computer network.

Officials began working to investigate, to restore operations and determine the effects of the incident. Leaders also are working with nationally recognized third-party cybersecurity consultants. The county continues to actively monitor the situation.

The safety and security of the community and its employees remains the top priority. The county is working around the clock through this cyber incident to restore operations and ask for community patience as it implements business continuity measures.

The commissioners office reported all essential services continue to operate, including 9-1-1 operations and emergency communications. Not all county departments have been impacted and it is suggest patrons contact the office needed prior to going to that location.

Melt the Ice 5K set for Saturday

FREMONT - The Melt the Ice 5K Run will be held Saturday at Biggs-Kettner Memorial East Side Park, 601 St. Joseph St. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., the race at 9 a.m. The Fremont Elite Runners Club is hosting the run, its first event of the running season.

Proceeds will be donated to the Fremont Exchange Club. Race day registration is $25. Race day registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. until 15 minutes before the start of the race.

Fremont Flea Market is Saturday, Sunday

FREMONT - The Fremont Flea Market will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at the Sandusky County Fair Grounds, 901 Rawson Ave. Admission is free. For more information visit www.sanduskycountyfair.com.
