Birchard Library to hold Aug. 2 celebration

FREMONT - The Birchard Public Library has a lot to celebrate this summer.  Aug. 2 is the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Fort Stephenson, July 4th was the 150th anniversary of the formation of the library board of trustees, and the library has just completed a building project which added 8,500 square feet to the library.

The public is invited at 2 p.m. Aug. 2. Activities are planned for all ages, including tours of the new building.

Special hearing set for expansion, zoning request from Sunrise Cooperative

CLYDE - The Clyde Planning Commission meet and will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, July 31 on a request from Sunrise Cooperative Inc, 2025 W. State St., Fremont, to rezone 42.147 acres on Burkholder Road from R-2 Mixed Residential to I-1 General Industrial. Sunrise Cooperative already owns the property and it would be used for a rail expansion at its facility on Burkholder Road to expand the grain and rail facility to meet new Norfolk Southern rail loading requirements.

The commission will then consider a motion to recommend to city council to approve, approve with modifications or disapprove of the Sunrise request.

MOESC secures regional literacy coaching contract

MANSFIELD — The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) is one of four of Ohio’s educational service centers to secure an Ohio Department of Education bid to serve in Gov. Mike DeWine’s “Building Regional Capacity to Support Ohio’s Literacy Coaching Model" literacy project.

The goal is to increase student achievement through improved language and literacy outcomes for students. MOESC’s Carrie Wood, director of teaching and learning, has been named as the literacy director for this project.

Mid-Ohio is seeking coaches based remotely in Erie, Huron and Lorain as well as Sandusky, Ottawa, Ashland, Crawford, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Lucas, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Seneca, VanWert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot counties.

Clyde Development Authority to meet Monday

CLYDE - The Clyde Development Authority scheduled a meeting for 8 a.m. Monday, July 31, in the second floor conference room of the municipal building, 222 N. Main St. The Records Commission meeting will follow at 8:45 a.m. Monday.

Ohio has new free tool to boost middle school math achievement

COLUMBUS - Ohio's new online individualized learning tool, Zearn Math, helps accelerate math learning of middle school students. All Ohio districts and schools serving students in grades 6-8 will have access at no cost to Zearn through June 30, 2025.

Zearn offers access to a full K-8 math library of more than 1,000 digital lessons, teaching materials and ongoing educator training. The investment is a part of Future Forward Ohio, the state’s plan to help students recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Districts or schools that would like free access to instructional materials through Zearn Math can learn more at about.zearn.org/ohio.
