News briefs: Black Resistance: Songs in Freedom program on Feb. 16

Ross County NAACP and the Chillicothe Ross County Public Library is hosting its Black History Month Celebration at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 in the library annex located behind the main library on Paint Street.

The theme of this year's program is Black Resistance: Songs in Freedom. The whole program will be full of songs by various groups from the community and special dance presentation.

Equine Show Arena Capital Campaign

The Ross County Agricultural Society’s Equine Facility Subcommittee is seeking partnerships to fund the development of an indoor riding facility. The equine program is the only program at the fairgrounds which is vulnerable to the weather. This has resulted in the 4-H youth showing their horses in dangerous conditions. The committee is seeking to build a facility that not only serves the youth of Ross County and surrounding counties but provides needed Hippo-therapy programs for vulnerable populations such as children and adults with disabilities and veterans who are suffering from PTSD. The addition of an indoor facility will allow more activities such as Pony Camp and will draw in larger horse shows that will bring in tourism to our community.
