Cemetery cleanup set for March

FREMONT - St. Joseph Cemetery Association will start its annual spring cleanup at the St. Ann and St. Joseph cemeteries Monday. Decorations will be cleared. Spring decorations may be placed starting April 2.

Water development authority awards funds to Genoa

The Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) awarded $2 million through low interest loans to Ohio communities to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and make water quality improvements for Ohioans. In February, the authority funded six projects that will provide improvements and replace aging infrastructure. The six projects received an interest rate ranging from 1.71%-3.91%.

Among communities receiving funding is the Genoa in Ottawa County. The village is receiving $728,716 at 3.42% for 20 years for construction improvements to four pump stations located at Manor Drive, Gordon Lumber, Second Street and the high school.

Mild temperatures allow Lake Erie Island Ferries a jump start on 2023 season

PUT-IN-BAY - Miller Ferries began the 2023 season earlier than usual this year following one of the mildest Ohio winters in recent memory. Ferry service to Put-in-Bay (South Bass Island) began Wednesday and Middle Bass Island ferry trips start March 30.Miller Ferries operate passenger/vehicle service to the Lake Erie Islands of Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island from Catawba Island, 5174 E. Ottawa County Board of Election to meet March 6

OAK HARBOR - The Ottawa County Board of Elections board is meeting at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Board of Elections office, 8444 W. Ohio 163, Oak Harbor, in the Veterans Memorial Building.

Family Fun with Lorax Day at Ottawa NWR

OAK HARBOR - Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge will hold Lorax Day 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The family event shares the message of Dr. Suess’ “The Lorax” through activities, crafts, food and a reading of the book. The event will be held at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 14000 West Ohio 2.

This is an open house style event, participants may attend anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about conservation and habitat in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
