Cinco De Mayo Festival set for Saturday

FREMONT - The City of Fremont 5th Annual Cinco De Mayo Festival will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on Garrison Street, rain or shine.

Latino music will be provided by DJ Gabe Ontiveros. A free movie "Encanto" will be show at the Paramount Theatre with the donation of a nonperishable food item. Doors open at 10 a.m. There will be Mexican food vendors, raffles and more. There will be the History of Puebla, a heritage award and contests, including "El Grito" and "Jalapeno", how many can you eat? For more information call 419-552-1542.

180th Fighter Wing to conduct large-scale exercise

SWANTON - Airmen assigned to the Ohio National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing will participate in a Large-Scale Readiness Exercise, May 4 to May 7, at the base in Swanton. The exercise is a full-scale assessment of the 180FW’s ability to survive and operate in challenged environments.

Those living and working near the base may see and hear increased activity, both on base and the areas immediately surrounding the installation. Area residents can expect to see increased traffic and activity along the perimeter and at entry control points. Residents may also hear increased noise from loudspeakers, sirens and loud booms, as part of simulated training scenarios.

Glassblowing, blacksmithing to be held at Arts Garage

PORT CLINTON - The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council has announced that blacksmithing and glassblowing classes coming to The Arts Garage (TAG) this spring and summer.

Larchmere Fireworks, based in Cleveland, are hosting classes at TAG on irregular weekends beginning in May.

Join in on Friday through Sunday, May 5 to May 7, at a set time between 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., where you will work one on one with the blacksmith to forge a spiral air plant holder.

A project will take 15 to 20 minutes and will be coated in bees wax to preserve the metal. You will get to pick out an air plant from a variety. Cost is $50 per person (no sharing anvil time) and tickets can be purchased on the Larchmere website at larchmerefireworks.com. The Arts Garage is at 317 W. Perry St.

Master Gardener Plant Sale set at fairgrounds

FREMONT - The 19th Annual Master Gardener Plant Sale will be 9 a.m. to 1 pm. Saturday, May 6, at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds, 901 Rawson Ave. Sandusky and Ottawa County Master Gardener Volunteers are holding their annual plant sale at the Junior 4H Building.

Women's Connection plans May 9 luncheon

FREMONT- The Fremont Area Women’s Connection’s luncheon will be May 9 at Victor’s Event Center, 2270 Hayes Ave.

The talk will be “Grow the Artist in You,” featuring Joni Hasselback of Joni’s Boutique. The speaker will be Lee Doll of South Lebanon telling her story, “My Worst Day on My Best Day.”
