Law enforcement conducts checkpoint on Rawson Avenue

FREMONT - The Fremont Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Sandusky County Sheriff's Office and Fremont Police Department conducted an OVI checkpoint on Rawson Avenue. The checkpoint ran from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday. Three hundred and sixty-three vehicles passed through the checkpoint and were checked for impairment. One vehicle was diverted for further investigation.

A total of 15 officers from the three law enforcement departments worked the checkpoint. After the checkpoint, the participating agencies saturated Sandusky County in an effort to educate motorists about the dangers of drinking and driving. Law enforcement officers stopped an additional 10 vehicles as part of the saturation patrols.

Clyde City Council to hold hearing on rezoning over 42 acres

CLYDE - Clyde City Council will hold a public hearing in the council chambers in the municipal building, 222 N. Main St. at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, on a rezoning request from Sunrise Cooperative Inc., Fremont. Sunrise Cooperative is seeking to rezone 42.147 acres on Burkholder Road from R-2 Mixed Residential to I-1 General industrial.

Council will then meet at 7 p.m. and is slated to give a first reading to an ordinance on the rezoning request.

GLCAP to hold open house for Head Start, childcare services

FREMONT - The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) Stricker Family Development Center in Fremont will host an open house Wednesday, Aug. 16, for all families interested in Head Start/Early Head Start preschool and childcare services.

The open house takes place 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. The center is at 765 S. Buchanan St.

GLCAP Head Start and Early Head Start programs offer no-cost, full-day preschool and childcare for eligible families. Children are provided with meals and snacks, medical and dental screenings, socialization, and other services.

While eligibility is based on federal poverty guidelines, program staff will look at each family’s situation and assist them in finding the best option for their family’s circumstances. Families receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, as well as children in foster care or identified as homeless are also eligible, regardless of income. Children with disabilities are welcome and accommodated at all centers. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to call for details.

Sandusky County Health Board to meet Friday

FREMONT - The Sandusky County Board of Health will meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18 at 2000 Countryside Drive for its monthly meeting. The board will receive an update from its levy committee and building renovations.
