Juneteenth celebration is Saturday

FREMONT - The Fremont NAACP Unit 3217B will celebrate Juneteenth "Celebration of Freedom" from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Birchard Park.

The celebration will recognize local veterans, Ross High School athletic nominees, and include food, games, music, a car show and the Ohio 5th U.S. Color Troops Company and Civil War Re-enactment Unit.

In case of rain the event will be moved to the Fremont Community Recreation Center.

County treasurer to collect property taxes in Woodville

WOODVILLE - Kimberley Foreman, Sandusky County Treasurer, will be at the following locationfrom 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to collect property taxes for the second half of 2022 for anyone who wishes to pay in person.

She will be at the Municipal Building, 530 Lime St. on June 27, and in Clyde on June 29.

Taxpayers are asked to pay with check or money order — no cash and no debit/credit cards will be accepted. The tax bill must be presented at the time of payment or payment cannot be accepted. Real estate taxes are due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 14. Call the treasurer's office at 419-334-6234 if you have any questions or need more information.

Beat the Heat event brings awareness to child, pet safety

FREMONT - Sandusky County's Fifth Annual Beat the Heat set for Thursday, June 22, will now be 1 p.m. July 13 at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds Parking Lot. The Sandusky County Dog Warden's Office, Humane Society of Sandusky County and county Children's Services are working to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving children and pets in unattended cars.

Gibsonburg to host 2023 Homecoming

GIBSONBURG - The 2023 Homecoming Festival in Gibsonburg is running through Saturday, June 24. For a complete list of activities and events associated with Homecoming, visit the Gibsonburg, Ohio Facebook page. The festival will end with fireworks at 10 p.m. Saturday, June 24, in Williams Park.

Portage River Festival slated for Sunday

ELMORE - The Portage River Festival in Depot Park, 353 Ottawa St., is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 25. The day includes food at the barn from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and food trucks until 6 p.m. The Garden Tractor Pulling contest has registration at 10 a.m. with pulls beginning at noon. There will be bands, a flea market, Elmore Police with have a kids bike obstacle course from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and more.
