News briefs: Drive-thru food distribution on Saturday

CHILLICOTHE -- On Saturday, the Knights of Columbus Council #15793 will host a drive-thru food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon behind St. Peter Church, on the corner of Church and Water streets.

Ross County residents in need of food are invited to enter the parking lot using the Church Street entrance and exit onto Water Street. Please be advised that there is no ID requirement for this event. Additionally, we have diapers and wipes available, sizes newborn to 6, and baby food while supplies last.

Street Cat Zine Fest returns

CHILLICOTHE – Cheering and Waving Press will present Street Cat Zine Fest 7, taking place from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, at the Scioto Township Hall building located at 164 S. Watt St., and featuring music andpoetry from Southern Ohio and West Virginia.

The organizer Stephanie Renner is proud to bring Street Cat Zine Fest to Chillicothe for the second year in a row. Street Cat Zine Fest will host over 20 exhibitors showcasing prints, zines, comics, stickers, crafts and other homemade goods. An emphasis is placed on exhibitors from Southern Ohio and the Appalachian region with exhibitors also from Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati.

The event is free and open to the community.

Plyley's Lane milling and paving

The City of Chillicothe Engineering Department announced that milling and paving of Plyley’s Lane from Belleview to Western will be done on Monday and Tuesday. This job is weather dependent and may be altered if rain delays the project. Crews will start work each day at 7 a.m. and work until 8 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction vehicles and workers, and to allow extra time to navigate the construction zone.

Penalty fee for working without a permit

The Ross County Board of Commissioners in conjunction with the Ross County Building Department will begin implementing a penalty fee for contractors working without proper permits. Building permits can be obtained from the Ross County Building Department, 15 North Paint St., www.rossplanningandbuilding.com

Implementation of the $500 penalty will begin Jan. 1. This fee is in addition to any building permit fees required for the job. If you have questions regarding what type of permit is required, or if a permit is required, please contact the Building Department prior to beginning work, to avoid the penalty.
