Fremont Lions to meet April 4

FREMONT - Fremont Lions Club will meet at noon on April 4 at the Fremont Eagles Hall with Juvenile Court Judge Brad Smith as the guest speaker.  Election of officers for the 2023-2024 year will also take place.  On April 18, the speaker will be Fremont Schools Superintendent Jon Detwiler and the Students of the Month for April will be present.

At the last meeting the members heard from Maya Walker and Logan Baacke, the March Students of the Month from Fremont Ross High School. Guest speaker was Ed McClain, the Special Olympics Coordinator at the School of Hope. Athletes Sarah Leeper and Whitney Parker also shared their experiences and enjoyment of competing in cheerleading and basketball.

During the announcements, President Donna Thatcher noted the Fremont Lions Club was awarded a Service Award at the recent District Convention in Mansfield that she and Terry Thatcher attended. Lion member Dr. Greg Derodes presented a workshop at the convention on glaucoma and the need to reach the Afro American and Hispanic population especially for screening of this preventable disease.

Women's Connection to meet April 11

FREMONT - The Fremont Area Women’s Connection’s Luncheon will be April 11 at Victor’s Event Center, 2270 Hayes Ave. The group invites area women to “Dare to Discover Sandusky County” featuring Brenda Havens of the Sandusky County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

The speaker will be Lori Kempton of Fairfield Township, Ohio, telling her life story, “Change Happens.”

The doors open at 10:30 a.m. for coffee and socializing. The lunch and program is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Cost is $14.

School board meeting canceled

PORT CLINTON - The Port Clinton City School District Board of Education has canceled its April 3 at the board of education office, 811 S. Jefferson St.

Living History Trade Fair is Saturday
