Fremont Lions plan installation dinner

FREMONT - Valarie Cook, Activity Director at Parkview Care Center, was the speaker recently at the Fremont Lions Club. She expressed appreciation for the ongoing project the club does for residents and staff at the facility on a weekly basis with greeting cards and a treat on a monthly basis.

Members were reminded to make reservations for the Installation dinner on June 20 at the Victor Event Center at 6:30 p.m. with a lasagna dinner at 7 p.m.

New officers for 2023-2024 to be installed include: Steve Anway, presiden; Greg DeRodes, vice president; Donna Thatcher and Colleen Carmack, secretary and assistant; Susie Osborne, treasurer; Joan Gamble, Jeff Osborne, Rob Roth and Terry Thatcher, directors; Dave Peiffer, tail twister, Dave Souder, lion tamer and Jim Elder, chaplain.  The new board will meet at noon June 27 at the Fremont Middle School for a planning meeting.

President Donna Thatcher announced that scholarships have been presented to the Students of the Year. Recipients included Maya Walker from Fremont Ross and Madeline Michael from St. Joseph. Students of the Month will once again attend the meetings beginning in September.

The annual Pancake Breakfast was held recently and was a success. Fremont Lions meet on the first and third Tuesdays at noon and guests are welcome. Due to the installation dinner meeting and the July 4 holiday, the next regularly scheduled meeting will be noon July 18 at the Fremont Eagles Hall. Ottawa County court to use grant for security improvements

PORT CLINTON - The Supreme Court of Ohio announced that Ottawa County Municipal Court will receive a technology grant.

Ottawa County Municipal Court will use the $27,146.92 it receives this year to implement security measures which would put it in compliance with the Ohio Court Security Standards.

This year, the Supreme Court of Ohio is awarding $2.9 million to 42 local court projects for technology systems or upgrades.

Task Force on Aging to hold ceremony

PORT CLINTON - The Ottawa County Task Force on Aging recognized World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - Building Strong Support for Elders, in a brief ceremony at the Port Clinton High School Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 16.  The Honorable Frederick C. Hany II from the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court, Probate — Juvenile Divisions, and Stephanie Kowal, Director of Ottawa County Job and Family Services, were scheduled to give brief remarks.

Library board to meet on Tuesday

FREMONT - Birchard Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Library, Room 132.

The board will discuss the search for a new director and disposal of excess furniture and equipment.
