Gibsonburg to host 9/11 Memorial

GIBSONBURG — The Village of Gibsonburg extends an invitation to attend the Remembrance Ceremony at noon Sunday, Sept. 11 in Williams Park at The Public Safety Service Memorial.

The Memorial honors and remembers the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 and pay tribute to the Public Safety Service Personnel who sacrifice on a daily basis for their communities.

Speaking at this years Ceremony will be Sam Weigman (Gibsonburg School District Educator), Chris Shay (Retired, Sandusky County EMS), Judge Brad Smith (Sandusky County Juvenile and Probate Court) and Colonel Charles Jones, Superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Ottawa County Task Force on Aging eyes combating fraud on seniors

PORT CLINTON — Rachel Fall, chairwoman of Ottawa County’s Task Force on Aging, announced that Sept. 15 is a day dedicated to helping senior citizens and their families combat elder scams and fraud.

“Our Task Force is hosting this event which will bring to our area experts in their fields which identify identity theft, elder abuse scams and what our families can do to fight back,” Fall said in a news release. This event, to be held at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 15 at Camp Perry, will feature local, state and federal speakers including, the Ohio Attorney General’s office, the United States Attorney’s office, the FBI, Federal Trade Commission and the US Postal Service.

Judge Frederick (Fritz) Hany II is slated to be one of the speakers at the event. He said, “Criminals believe the elderly are vulnerable. Our parents are often embarrassed that they got swindled. It’s so important that we assure them that they are victims of a crime and are not alone. There is help.”

St. Joe to hold Golabki dinner

FREMONT — The St. Joseph Central Catholic Booster Club Famous Golabki (Cabbage Rolls) Dinner will be 5 p.m. Sept. 21 at SJCC High School, 702 Croghan St., Fremont.

The dinner will be carry-out only. The price for an adult dinner is $12.

The booster club is looking for individuals to donate pies for this dinner. Those who want to donate can bring pies to the SJCC cafeteria Wednesday afternoon or call SJCC High School at 419-332-9947.
