Gibsonburg to host Great Big Lemonade Stand

GIBSONBURG - The Great Big Gibsonburg Lemonade Stand will open to all young businessmen and businesswomen in the community from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Williams Park on East Stone St. Youths may set up shop with lemonade, baked goods, arts and crafts or produce to sell for fundraisee.

Larry Michaels to present talk on history of the Sandusky River

CLYDE - From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, the "History of the Sandusky River" will be presented at the Clyde Museum, 124 W. Buckeye St., by Larry Michaels. It will be the interesting and meaningful history of events, individuals, and people groups related to the history of the Sandusky River based onhis book.

Verandah Concert planned at Spiegel Grove

FREMONT- at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, a Verandah Concert with Robert Jones and Matt Watroba will be presented at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums in Spiegel Grove. An old-fashioned ice cream social is at 6:30 p.m. Jones and Watroba will perform a celebration of traditional and popular roots music. Admission is free.

Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets and choose their favorite spot on the expansive and shady lawn in front of the home. Donations are accepted for ice cream. If there are thunderstorms on concert night, the event will be canceled. Updates will be available at 419-332- 2081, rbhayes.org.

No smoking in Clyde parks, recreation areas

CLYDE - Clyde City Council approved an ordinance on its first reading on July 6 to prohibit smoking in public parks and recreational areas and declaring it an emergency.

The ban took effect immediately upon its passage. The smoking ban includes any vapor-producing device, and prohibited areas include playgrounds, athletic fields, pavilions, shelters, walking and bike trails and aquatic centers. Exclusions include parking areas if 50 feet from an entrance or activity. Penalty is $20 per violation, if paid in 24 hours.

City Manager Justin LaBenne at the same council meeting discussed the demolition of 915 N. Main St., 385 N. Woodland, 638 Vine St., 117 Spring St., 165 E. Cherry St., 1045 S. Main St., and 326 Vine St. LaBenne also reported the city Pickleball courts at Hendricks Park are completed and being used, a report showed.

Council members also discussed the retention pond being dug near the sidewalk at the site of a new Dollar General store on South Main Street. Council members expressed concerns about safety and asked if a fence would be installed.

VFW to hold steak dinner on Friday

FREMONT - Fremont VFW Post 2947 will be hosting a steak dinner on Friday.  This dinner will run from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $15 and the dinner is open to the public.  Presale tickets are available at the VFW, 204 Birchard Ave.
