News briefs: Hope Clinic to hold its annual Kentucky Derby Fundraiser

CHILLICOTHE - Guests are invited to join Hope Clinic Volunteers for the Kentucky Derby Fundraiser to be held Saturday, May 6 at the Chillicothe Country Club.

Event guests will be treated to an elegant dinner, viewing of the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby on a giant screen television, plus entertainment including games and prizes. A photo station with a Kentucky Derby themed live horse and jockey will be available as guests enter on the red carpet. Master of ceremonies Dan Ramey will be the host for the evening event and will be joined this year by Mike Haller as auctioneer. A live auction with unique one-of-a-kind items will be held immediately following the Derby race and the closing of the silent auction.

Women are encouraged to wear hats similar to those worn at the Kentucky Derby race at Churchill Downs and men are encouraged to wear a hat or tie that reflects the theme. A prize will be awarded for the best Ladies Derby hat.

Hope Clinic CEO Jami Easterday said, “The money raised during the event will benefit the clinic’s mission of providing basic medical, dental, vision and prescription services to those with an income of 300% or less of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or those with no insurance or unable to afford copays.”

Conservation League giving out scholarship

CHILLICOTHE - The Ross County Conservation League is preparing to again award a $1,000 scholarship (increased from $500 last year) to a deserving Ross County student.

If you have graduating students who are going to pursue further education in the areas of environmental studies, conservation, or related fields, please submit that student’s application to Nelson Coleman, 20485 State Route 104, Chillicothe OH 45601, emerald@bright.net.

Applications should be submitted no later than April 30. A committee will choose/select recipients at a May meeting.

Adena Adds Four New Providers

CHILLICOTHE – Adena Health System is expanding its care for patients with the addition of four health care providers, across multiple service lines. These incoming providers are delivering even more options for comprehensive, close-to-home care for patients throughout the region.Alivia Benfield, Certified Nurse Practitioner comes to Adena Internal Medicine serving patients in Chillicothe. Alivia is experienced in acute and chronic condition management and preventative treatment. She earned her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus.

Sarah Hood, LPCC-S, LICDC-CS joins the Adena Counseling Center seeing patients in Chillicothe. Sarah brings with her over 13 years of experience as an independent counselor and chemical dependency counselor working with patients with both addiction and mental health issues. She earned her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Ohio University.

Nicole Scott, Certified Nurse Practitioner is now caring for patients at Adena Urgent Care locations in Chillicothe, Circleville, Hillsboro, Jackson and Waverly. Nicole has been with Adena since 2017 serving as a CNP with Adena General Surgery holding the position of lead surgical APP since 2020. She serves on several Adena provider leadership committees and collaborated in initiatives that created of a postoperative discomfort management regimen that has nearly eliminated the need for postoperative IV opioid use, as well as a Surgical Nursing Boot Camp that is part of new nurse hire orientation and education. The recipient of the health system’s 2021 nursing excellence award for advance practice provider, Nicole earned her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Ohio University in Athens.

Brittany Winland, Certified Nurse Midwife is accepting new patients with Adena Women’s Health OB/GYN seeing patients in Chillicothe and Hillsboro. Brittany has been with Adena since 2018 caring for patients as a labor and delivery staff nurse. As a CNM, she will provide care for women of all ages, as well as throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. Brittany earned her master’s degree in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in Versailles, KY.
