Humane society elects board members, officers

PORT CLINTON - The Humane Society of Ottawa County recently held its annual meeting. Four incumbent members were reelected to another two-year term: Lara Bischoff, Sarah LaMarca, Marty Morus, and Sue Sradeja. They join existing board members Barbara Ayers, Crystal Cleary, Terry Glovinsky, and Mary Anne Koebel. The board welcomed newly elected member Tami Matthews.

Officers elected for 2023 are Marty Mortus, president; Sue Sradeja, vice president; Tami Matthews, secretary, and Mary Anne Koebel, treasurer.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Ida Rupp Public Library. All meetings are open to the public.

Port Clinton school board to meet Jan. 23

PORT CLINTON - The Port Clinton City School Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 23 at the board office, 811 S. Jefferson St.

Winter Science Fest set at Wilson Nature Center

LINDSEY - The Sandusky County Park District will host the Winter Science Fest from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Wilson Nature Center, Creek Bed Farm, 720 S. Main St. This family friendly event will feature several experiment stations and snacks. Visitors will learn how birds are waterproof, the benefits of blubber, how magnets work and the best way to insulate ice. There will be hot chocolate, popcorn and s'mores. Registration is not requried.

Fremont Lions to meet Tuesday

FREMONT - The Fremont Lions Club will meet at noon Tuesday, Jan.17 in the Fremont Eagles Hall.  Guest speaker is Bruce Chambers from the Drone Academy at Tiffin University.  Members and guests are welcome to attend and hear Chambers as well as the January Students of the Month from Fremont Ross and St. Joe High School.  A business meeting will be at noon Jan. 31 to discuss upcoming events.

Emily Boroff from Alicia’s Closet, a non-profit organization serving the foster care community, was the guest speaker on Jan 3.  As a former foster child placement home, Boroff explained her passion for providing the families with clothing and necessary resources for the children. Since opening Alicia’s Closet, located in St. John Lutheran Church in September 2022, she has served 26 children, from just a few days old to age 19. Clothing and other items for foster families are available at no cost. In addition, children in kinship placements, reunited families and youth aging out of foster care may also be served.
