Kern Center to host Flavors of Fall

FREMONT — Terra State Community College's Kern Center will be hosting Flavors of Fall from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Neeley Center on the college's campus.

This event is hosted by the Kern Center's Life Scholars program and will include a farm-to-table dinner, wine pull and a cash bar.

"Life Scholars is a peer-led group serving mature learners, 50 and beyond, who share a common desire to learn by broadening intellectual interests, physical activity and social interaction," said Emily Riehle, Director of Dining and Event Services and Interim Coordinator of Community Education. Flavors of Fall is $50 per person or $80 per couple.

Ottawa County elections board to meet Thursday

OAK HARBOR — The Ottawa County Board of Elections is meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, for a regular board meeting and to address any other business that comes before the board.  The meeting will be held at the Board of Elections office at 8444 W. Ohio 163 in the Veterans Memorial Building.

Blood drive slated in Gibsonburg

GIBSONBURG — Zion Lutheran Church, 500 S. Bentwood Drive, will host a Bloodmobile from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 15. To make an appointment to donate blood, call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

McPherson Cemetery tour set for Tuesday

CLYDE — The McPherson Cemetery annual tour will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. The tour will cover individuals from the 2022 McPherson Cemetery book by Larry Michaels. The tour will be led by Michaels, a Clyde Heritage League Trustee; and Gene Smith, curator of Clyde Museum. Those attending should meet at the McPherson Monument in the cemetery to begin the tour.

The cemetery is at the corner of McPherson Highway and Ohio 101.

Young to speak on Johnson's Island Civil War role

PORT CLINTON — Don Young, President of the Johnson’s Island Preservation Society, will speak at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 as part of the Catawba Island Historical Society’s Culture Lecture Series.  He will address the island’s role during the American Civil War, as well as its subsequent tourist and other business pursuits.

The one-hour presentation will be held at the Catawba Island Community Hall, 3307 NW Catawba Road. There is no charge for admission

Creation and administration of the Depot of Prisoners of War, Johnson’s Island, Sandusky Bay, is the most historically significant part of the island’s colorful past. During the prison’s 40 months of existence, approximately 10,000 men were processed into its stockade. Most were Confederate officers. Twenty-six were either generals or officers who became generals during or after their imprisonment.

Old Fort school board to meet

OLD FORT — The Old Fort Local Schools' Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 in the board office, 7635 N. CR 51.
