Perry's memorial to offer free admission

PUT-In-BAY — Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial announced a day of free admission.

On  June 13, 2022, the park will celebrate the 107th anniversary of the memorial’s opening to the public. Visitors can celebrate by enjoying the spectacular views from atop the observation deck and contemplating why the memorial was constructed — to honor those who fought and died in the Battle of Lake Erie and celebrate the long-lasting peace between the United States, Great Britain, and Canada.

The $10 entrance fee to the memorial’s observation deck will be waived for the entire day. Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. seven days a week through Sept. 11. The last trip to the memorial’s observation deck begins at 5:30 p.m. each day.

American PAGE to meet June 13

FREMONT — American Patriots Against Government Excess will meet at 7 p.m. June 13 at the Fremont Baptist Temple, 931 Everett Road.

The group will be discussing the upcoming 4th of July Rally with additional information on partnering by the local Young Republicans group.  AmPAGE president, Marion Bower, said , "It is important that we have help this year to make our 14th Annual Rally a big success.”

Old Fort school board to meet

OLD FORT — The Old Fort Local School’s Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. June 13 in the Board Office.

Fireworks committee plans July 4 royalty contests

PORT CLINTON — The Port Clinton Fireworks Committee will hold the Firecracker Cuties, Princess, Queen and Ms/Mrs. contests on July 4 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Contestants should wear red, white and blue and will be judged on outfits, personality and presentation on stage. Proceeds benefit the fireworks show.

A Most Photogenic Contest will also be held separately before July 4. Registration for the photo contest is June 30. Results will be announced July 4.

Wolcott Keeper's House opens for season

MARBLEHEAD — The Wolcott Keeper’s House, 9999 E. Bayshore Road, Marblehead, will open its 200th anniversary season on Saturday  with a fireplace cooking demonstration. Head cook Becky Shemenski will fix dishes from the early 19th century using the restored fireplace.

The house and museum/gift shop will be open for visitors that day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thereafter, the regular hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Flag raising ceremony set for Tuesday

FREMONT — The Fremont Fire Department will be presenting a flag raising ceremony at Parkview Care Center, 1406 Oak Harbor Road, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers after ceremony.

Police officers, fire department, veterans, and active military are invited and to be honored on Flag Day.
