Halloween Committee names best displays in Clyde area

CLYDE - The Clyde Halloween Committee announced the best decorated homes in the Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village School District.

Grand Marshal Award went to Spookville at 103 Ken Lee Drive, Green Springs.

First place went to Dead Village at 825 W. Maple St., Clyde.

Second Place went to Halloween Season of the Witches, 424 Race St., Clyde.

Third Place winner is 508 S. Main St., for the Haunted Pumpkin Patch.

The Halloween Committee is made up of members from the Clyde Exchange Club and the Clyde Career Women.

Winter heating assistance begins Nov. 1

FREMONT - Support for homes in need of winter heating assistance through Great Lakes Community Action Partnership will start Nov. 1.

GLCAP’s Winter Crisis Program serves Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, and Wood County households that are at risk of a utility shut-off, have disconnected utilities, or need to establish or transfer new service. The program also helps households that have a 25% or less supply of bulk fuel such as kerosene or propane.

Eligible households must be at or below 175% federal poverty guidelines (e.g. $25,515/household of one, $52,500/household of four). Applicants must provide a list of all household members, including Social Security numbers, birthdates, proof of citizenship; proof of income for all household members for the previous 30 days or 12 months, and copies of recent utility bills.

The scheduling hotline for appointments is available at 567-432-5046. Scheduling may also be conducted online at glcap.org/winterheating. Appointments will be conducted in-person. The Winter Crisis program runs through March 31.

Households in need of water utility assistance are also encouraged to seek help through GLCAP. Now extended through March 31, GLCAP’s Water Utility Assistance program helps households with disconnected service or at risk of disconnection and helps residents to establish new service or transfer service. Details are available by calling 1-800-775-9767.

Port Clinton Community Thanksgiving Worship set for Nov. 19

PORT CLINTON - The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov 19 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 135 Adams St.

Pastor Warren Brown will be the clergy host. Featured speaker will be the Rev. Beverly Collinsworth, pastor of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Clergy from other area churches will participate.

A community choir under the direction of Dr. Gregory Fox will perform the anthem, singing Mark Wilberg's arrangement of "My Country, 'Tis of Thee."

Music accompaniment for the choir and for congregational singing will be on the church's pipe organ by John Walrabenstein.

Other features of the worship service will be psalms of thanksgiving, readings, scripture and hymns.

Plenty of on-street parking is available. Other parking space is in the lots at the side and rear of the church. Following the worship service the women of Trinity Church will serve light refreshments in the upstairs hall. It is accessible by stairs or elevator.

Salvation Army’s Warm Winter 'Coats for Families' Drive Underway

PORT CLINTON - The Salvation Army’s “Coats for Families” program will run through January. The coats, hats, and gloves distributed through this program are provided through local donations. New coats only can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Port Clinton Service Center, 1834 E. Perry St..

This is the 31st year this program has been keeping families warm in Ottawa County. Last year, over 900 articles of clothing were distributed, including 400 coats. If you or someone you know needs a coat, hat, or gloves, contact the Salvation Army Port Clinton Service Center between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31.
