Port Clinton chamber to host car show

PORT CLINTON - The 30th Annual Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce Classic Car Show will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Madison Street in downtown. Cars, trucks and bikes from every era will be on display. A disc jockey will play music and there will be drawings and door prizes every hour.

On average in recent years the show has included 150 cars. Vehicle registration is $15. Plaques will be given to the first 100 cars to check in. For more information call 419-734-5503.

Downtown Fremont to host Together Fremont

FREMONT - Downtown Fremont Inc. will be hosting the Farmers Market and Fremont City School All Together Fremont Event on Front Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and will be held rain or shine.

There will be cultural booths throughout the market featuring community members telling stories of their and others' heritage that has brought them to Fremont. Participants are encouraged to pick up a cover page of Fremont’s Get to Know Your Neighbor book at the Downtown Fremont Inc. tent at the Front and Garrison Street intersection. Then add pages at each booth and enter into a drawing to win a $100 Think Fremont Community Card. The Simon Metzger Quartet will be performing different genres of music that reflect the heritage of Fremont.

Lutheran churches to hold Peach Dessert Social

MARBLEHEAD - A Peach Dessert Social will be sponsored by the women of St. John and St. Paul Lutheran Churches from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 541 S. Church Road, in the fellowship hall.

The menu includes peach pies and other desserts, sliced peaches, ice cream, brats, hot dogs, chips and beverages.

Burke re-elected treasurer for engineer's foundation

COLUMBUS - James Burke, E. I., has been re-elected treasurer of the Engineers Foundation of Ohio at the organization's 59th Annual Meeting in June. Burke is a Fremont resident. He is a senior project electrical engineer with Church and Dwight Co. Inc, and a part-time faculty member at the University of Toledo.

'Wall That Heals' heading to Gibsonburg on Aug. 29

GIBSONBURG - "The Wall That Heals," a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial along with a mobile Education Center, is coming to the village on Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 at Williams Park on East Stone Street. It will be open 24 hours and will be free to the public.

In addition, The Wall That Heals will be escorted to Williams Park on Aug. 29 in a procession that will include police, fire and veterans motorcycle groups. The procession will leave the Target Parking Lot on U.S. 20 in Rossford and travel east on U.S. 20 towards Gibsonburg and Sandusky County. The procession is slated to leave the Target lot at 1 p.m. and arrive in Williams Park at 1:45 p.m.
