Program set on World's Greatest Marksman

FREMONT — Sandusky County Historical Society vice president Jim Weaver will present a program on the Fremont man who once was known as the World's Greatest Marksman at 2 p.m. July 10, in the Historical Society museum, 514 Birchard Ave.

Guy Emerson earned the "World's Greatest" title  when he became the first person to win the Wimbledon Cup at Camp Perry three times. In addition to being a world champion competitor, Emerson was a regular adviser and teacher at Camp Perry.

He was a member of a pioneer family that came to Sandusky County the year it officially became a county — 1820.

Weaver is the author of a book on Emerson and Fremont during Emerson's era.

Attendance at the program is free.

Humane Society holds yard sale fundraiser

PORT CLINTON — The Humane Society of Ottawa County is having a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the shelter, 2424 E. Sand Road.

Hundreds of items will be for sale; furniture, kitchenware, household goods. sporting items, household decorations, framed art, childrens' toys and more.

All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Ottawa County.

For anyone who would like to donate items for this sale, the shelter is accepting items through Friday. For more information call the shelter at 419-734-5191.

Fremont school board calls special meeting

FREMONT — The Fremont City Board of Education will hold a special board meeting at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the administration office, conference room 126, 500 W. State St., Suite A.

GLCAP begins 28th People Helping People Campaign

FREMONT — Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP)  began its 28th annual People Helping People Campaign on July 1.

The campaign raises funds for GLCAP’s People Helping People Fund, which assists low-income individuals and families in GLCAP’s core service region of Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, and Wood counties with needs that go above and beyond those that are covered through GLCAP’s grant-funded programs.

“Life gives all of us unexpected challenges, and these challenges tend to hit harder for many of the people we serve,” GLCAP Public Relations Director Alex Boroff said. 

Online shoppers may also help GLCAP through AmazonSmile. Shoppers can visit smile.amazon.com, log in, and choose Great Lakes Community Action Partnership as their designated organization to have a portion of their Amazon purchase go to the GLCAP People Helping People Fund.
