News briefs: Public comment being accepted for Ohio 772 bridge maintenance

CHILLICOTHE – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation—District 9’s Planning Department, the district’s Environmental Office is seeking public input for a bridge maintenance project on Ohio 772 in Ross County.

ROS-772-8.76 (PID 115322) It is proposed to perform a scour remediation project on Ohio 722 at the 8.76 mile mark. The project is located in a rural area of Huntington Township between Chester Hill Road and Baptist Hill Road.

  • The project will grade and add rock channel protection (RCP) to the stream banks to protect the bridge.

  • The project will require approximately 0.389 acres of permanent right-of-way. The permanent right-of-way is located along the stream channels.

  • The roadway will be open for the duration of the project.

  • No homes or businesses will be removed by the project.

  • The funding for the project is 80% federal and 20% state.

The environmental commitment date is July 28, 2024. The project is currently expected to be awarded July 1, 2024.

Public comment open for Ohio 772 landslide remediation

CHILLICOTHE – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation—District 9’s Planning Department, the district’s Environmental Office is seeking public input for a landslide remediation project on Ohio 772 in Pike County.

PIK-772-14.10 (PID 115993) It is proposed to perform a landslide remediation project on Ohio 772 at the 14.10 mile mark in Pike County. The project includes the construction of a drilled shaft retaining wall, pavement repair and installation of guardrail. The project is located in a residential area of Pebble Township between McKinney Road and the Ohio 772 and Ohio 124 intersection.

  • The project will not require new right-of-way.

  • The roadway will be open for the duration of the project.

  • No homes or businesses will be removed by the project.

  • The funding for the project is 80% federal and 20% state.

The environmental commitment date is Oct. 1, 2023. The project is currently expected to be awarded Feb. 5, 2024.

Ross County community partners coordinate area Employment Expo

CHILLICOTHE -- OhioMeansJobs, Ross County, Ross County Community Action, the Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce, Pickaway Ross Career Technology Center, Ohio University-Chillicothe and other community agencies have joined forces to bring an in-person Employment Expo to Chillicothe.

Slated from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Shoemaker Center on the Ohio University-Chillicothe Campus; the Employment Expo will feature 40 area employers who are currently seeking qualified applicants.

Participating employers are eager to hire for positions ranging from entry-level to management. Computers and printers will be available for job seekers. Be prepared to be interviewed on the spot! Refreshments will be provided by the Ross County Community Action. Chillicothe Transit fixed route stops at OUC and is available for job seekers with transportation needs. Door prizes drawings during the Expo.

The Expo is open to the public, no registration is required for job seekers.

Employer registration is required as table space is limited.
