Register to vote by July 5 for Ohio Aug. 2 primary election

FREMONT — The deadline for voter registration or to change name or address for the Aug. 2 primary election is July 5.

Voters can register to vote at the Sandusky County Board of Elections, 2020 Countryside Drive. The office will be open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. July 5 for the registration deadline. Normal hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

People are qualified to register to vote in Ohio if they meet all the following requirements:

• You are a citizen of the United States.

You will be at least 18 years old on the day of the general election.

• You will be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election in which you want to vote.

• You are not incarcerated (in jail or in prison) for a felony conviction.

You have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court.

• You have not been permanently disenfranchised for violations of elections laws.     

Voter registration forms are also available at: local libraries, any public high school or vocational school, Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), or any office or designated agency which provides public assistance or disability programs. 

You also may register or change your registration electronically at myohiovote.com.

Absentee/in-person voting for the Aug. 2 primary election will begin July 6 at the Sandusky County Board of Elections Office. The hours are: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 6 to 8, July 11 to 15 and July 18 to 22.

Additional hours are: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 25 to July 29, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30, 1 to 5 p.m. July 31, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1.

GroveFest is Saturday

FREMONT — GroveFest celebrates nature with free, hands-on activities at Spiegel Grove. Enjoy free nature activities at Spiegel Grove, an arboretum and the 25-acre grounds of the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free. The event features hands-on activities and crafts at booths with regional nature organizations. Ice cream and popcorn will be available.

South Creek Clydesdales will offer horse-drawn trolley rides through Spiegel Grove. Trolley ride tickets, which can be purchased on-site only, are $3 for ages 13 and older, $1 for kids 6-12 and free for kids 5 and younger.

Visitor parking is off-site only with the exception of those who have handicapped tags for their car. Parking will be available on the street and in ProMedica Memorial Hospital’s parking lots at Buildings A and B, 605 Third Ave. Spiegel Grove is a short walk to the east of the hospital parking lots.
